Who uses RaceTec race timing software?
Comrades Marathon, South Africa
The biggest, and most famous, ultra-marathon in the world – The Comrades Marathon. This was the birth-place of RaceTec. The race has IT requirements of unprecedented complexity and magnitude. The finish area is in a stadium. There are approximately 70 computers in various positions – information, media, referees, medical, operations and VIP. There is a 13 hour live TV broadcast of the race which demands live times from 6 splits en-route. The medical setup has 40 doctors, using 20 wireless PDAs to track who is in what bed. The RaceTec database is replicated to 4 powerful servers, 2 of which run the tracking website which gets more than 2,000,000 queries on race day. More than 2kms of network cabling are laid. Calculating results produces 500,000database transactions in 5 seconds, every 30 seconds. RaceTec handles all of this without even blinking. On top of all this, RaceTec handles all entries, including the full historical record of the race from 1921. That’s 385,000 entrants over 85 years. All their personal details, splits and results. This is what RaceTec was designed for – IT requirements beyond any other race. If it can cope with this, imagine how easily it will cope with your race.

Live data is pushed to IronmanLive.com continuously.

Who uses RFID Race Timing systems hardware?
RFID Side Antenna for Race Timing
The RFID Race Timing System has its origins back in 1996 when two pioneering West Australians developed a transponder timing system for their local triathlon
club. The device was so successful that another larger system was commissioned by Triathlon Western Australia in 1996.
Race Timing at Nike Womens Run Istanbul 2015
The RFID Race Timing System was subsequently used to time just about every multi-sport race in Western Australia as well as numerous swimming races including the Multiplex Rottnest Channel Swim which boasted a field size of over 2000 swimmers.
By 2004, the RFID Race Timing System was being used to time major triathlons around the country including the Australian Triathlon Championships. Even a first of its kind antenna was developed for use in canoeing races and was used for the first time in 2005 to time the Avon Descent. In the same year, Accuchip Timing became our exclusive distributor for North and South America.
By 2007, the RFID Race Timing System had been used at both Australian Ironman races, ITU World Cup Triathlon races and the World Kayak Championships.
Race Timing at Dusi Marathon South Africa 2015
Early in 2008 the brand new High Density Digital (HDD) System was released which gave the RFID Race Timing System the capability to time the start and finish lines of any size running event. The HDD System passed with flying colours at the prestigious 2008 Melbourne Marathon (20,000 runners) and the 2009 New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon (8000 runners).
In 2009 the HDD Systems continue to be the workhorse for many internationally timed events including both the ITU World Championships (Gold Coast) and Long Course Championships (Perth). The same system timed the prestigious Noosa Triathlon for the first time with a field of over 3000 triathletes. The HDD System was also used at the largest timed cycle event in the world – The Cape Argus Cycle Tour in Capetown South Africa.

Various Challenge events including Melbourne 2015, Philippines 2015 and Vietnam 2016
RFID Race Timing Systems were used at two Challenge events in the month of February. First up was Challenge Melbourne which saw over 1400 compete in atrocious weather conditions. Despite the wind and rain the athletes all enjoyed the scenic course on Port Philip Bay and the finishers towels were very welcome on the finish line. Later in February one of the hottest events on the Challenge Family series took place in Subic Bay (Philippines) and was again timed by RFID Race Timing Systems using Ultra. The timing service at Challenge Philippines boasted more timed splits than previous years and a new live results application that anyone could track using their smartphones. The combination of Ultra, Hutag with OutReach software is proving to be the new benchmark in multisport timing and well in the race against the older and much more expensive active transponder systems used in Ironman.
